Our Story

Welcome to Glass Experience Maui — a place where fire, creativity, and Aloha come together. Established in 2024 in Haliimaile by Makai Glass co-founders Justin Brown & Randy Schaffer.

For over 15 years, we’ve been here on Maui shaping molten glass into powerful works of art inspired by the elements of Hawaiʻi, from the movement of the ocean to the energy of the volcano.

Since the beginning we’ve wanted to create a way where we could safely teach and explore the glassblowing process with our clients, family, and friends.

With Glass Experience Maui, we’re opening our doors (and our flames) to the community and visitors who want to feel the magic of glassblowing through one-on-one instruction. Our new facility is located next to Makai Glass, our amazing gallery and studio space.

Whether you’re watching a live demo, working side-by-side with one of our artists, or simply exploring the beauty of our gallery, we invite you to be part of the process. This is our way of giving back, by sharing the art form we love with the island we call home.

Glassblowing is an ancient craft that dates back over 2,000 years, originating in the heart of the Roman Empire. For centuries, it was a skill practiced by master artisans, passed down through generations behind the closed doors of workshops and studios. Now, for the first time in history, this timeless art form is being shared in upcountry Maui. Here, you don’t just watch, you become part of the process. We invite you to step into the heat, feel the rhythm of the flame, and create something unforgettable with your own hands.

I visited with my family and this was one of the coolest experiences we have had, and definitely one of the best things we have ever done on Maui. We got to make glass cups and ornaments and art, stuff that we still have and use and that is on display in our home. Justin and the whole crew are amazing artists and teachers. I cannot recommend this enough, it's an impressive process with great teachers and you get to leave with an awesome souvenir that you made. One of the best things we have done on Maui hands down... go here!

Left a yelp review but it’s needed here too. This wasn’t a plan. We basically walked into it but man. I’m so happy we did. The kids loved it. I loved it. So hands on!!! Stephanie was amazing.

Amazing team of instructors, created such a wonderful experience for our group . Stephanie, Yashu and Olivia took their time and made us all feel so much confidence through each step.

Some of our team did the Flamework experience with Gabe and he was so amazing as well.

The whole team made our day such a blessing. Anyone with groups looking for hands on glass blowing should definitely book this studio experience. We were blown away.
